Alysa Bennett was born on a cattle ranch in California. She graduated from Boston University with a B.F.A. and received her M.F.A. from University of Pennsylvania. She has been living and showing her work in the Philadelphia area for many years but has also expanded with solo shows in New York City, Vermont, Scottsdale, AZ, and Loveland, CO.
The horse imagery that dominates her work has been inspired by growing up among many horses and by drawing, watching and riding them on her ranch in southern Arizona. The very particular light and the vast expanse of space of that high desert ranch has also inspired many landscapes and more recently, drawings and paintings of the fire- and weather-ravaged trees that exist there.
